2019 was a big year as far as the software I use on a daily basis. Somehow, most of my daily drivers received massive changes, updates, or shifts at pretty much the same time. I want to quickly go over some of these changes and what they mean to me (and maybe you as well). WORDPRESS Wordpress 5 was actually released in December of 2018 amid controversy over the new post and page editor called Gutenberg. Gutenberg is the code name for their new block-based text editor. This, I imagine, was a response to the rising crop of theme builders such as Divi, Elementor, and Beaver Builder. I haven't used any of these tools to any great extent so I can't comment on them directly. What I can say is that Wordpress bears little resemblance to the software I started out using. Wordpress was the first Open Source software I used on a regular basis, starting around 2007. Back then themes were simple, plugins were mostly free, and if you wanted to customize your site you dug in with your own CSS, HTML
